The OutfitI'm back from my ordeal of having to stand around in the dirt for three days, and I'm kind of pooped. So, while I could have been more ambitious and worn my really cute pink ponyhair heels with this, I said "screw it" and wore my pink Mizrahi driving mocs.Top is a printed Mossimo boatneck paired with a grey denim skirt and the aforementioned mocs.
The Focal PointOkay, it's not about the shoes today (although they are very cute and pink and comfy) it's about my fun printed shirt. The pattern is light grey, burgundy and pink on dark grey. It's really thin and the boatneck is comfortable. Since it's about 75 degrees here I didn't want to wear anything heavier.
Doesn't it look kind of snake-y?
The OutfitFriday's outfit may be one more reason why I need to buy a full length mirror. I know. I know. I can’t believe I don’t have one either, especially since my favorite part of my day is staring at the reflections of my shoes wherever I can. And you can't do that in a bathroom medicine cabinet mirror.
Regardless, I need a full length mirror and I’m going to try and get one or make one before the month is out. Not just because last week I wore a tunic length sweater to work as a dress. I’m short but, I guess I’m not THAT short. In my defense, I did wear tights with it, but I was wearing heels too. I seriously didn't think it was that short, but I guess I should have gotten a clue when the husband said “Hey sexy” right as I was walking out of the house.
Anyhoo, coming back to Friday's outfit. The elements themselves seem tame enough - my Gap jeans, the Libertine skull v-neck sweater vest and a Libertine cardigan in navy and green, neutralized somewhat with tan Mizrahi driving moccasins.
All in all it doesn't seem to bad, right?Yeah. Wrong. These colors were totally out of control against my newly brighter hair. I felt like Jack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman. I really need to start giving myself more time to thing about my outfits and get ready in the morning. I got to work an when I saw myself in Ladies' Room mirror I was like "Holy Crap! I look like a demented clown dressed me today!"Yeah, that sweater is going right in the Goodwill pile. It's cute enough, but on me look horrendous! I promise I won't be wearing that combo again.
If you value/appreciate/revere your shoes like I do, it is small but wise investment to prepare for possible negative contingencies. Maybe it's the former Girl Scout in me, but I hate when I get stuck in a situation without a back-up plan. I keep several umbrellas in my car and my office and I have "rain shoes" in case I'm wearing shoes that can't or shouldn't get wet. Rain, ugh a huge bane of my life. The other danger zone for my shoes is in my own car. Between debris in the mats or the dirt on the pedals, my heels can get messed up in my car just as easy as outside. Another issue is that in some of the killer stilettos, it can be hard to shift. I also hate when my shoes fall off the seat onto the floor, causing just as much damage as if I had left them on.So I came up with brilliant but easy solution of having bin just for my shoes that I keep on my passenger floor. I don't drive many people around so I have the room. Something small (and pink) like the one below is perfect because I can throw it in the backseat or the trunk if I need. It's also the perfect size to keep a pair of driving mocs (in a box) and the shoes I'm not wearing.
I love a driving moc, not just for its intended purpose, but in general. I keep these Isaac Mizrahi mocs in the car so I can easily slip them on. And I don't care if they get dirty or smudged because they were only $30. Plus, they are safer than wearing flip flops in the car. When you have a stick shift car, it is important that you are able to push in the clutch, switch gears and that your feet don't slip off the pedals.
But I think they are so cute I have another pair just like them for actual wearing around!
