This is back when Target and the Go International collections were something to be excited about.
I love love love the Luella jacket. I am so glad I bought it a million years ago.
It is so much more vibrant in person.
I usually like to wear this with a bright blue shoe to pick up the smallest stripe color but today I really wanted to wear these Jimmy Choo Violin heels (purchased maybe, I don't know, 7 years ago). A jacket and jeans are one of my best pairings, especially my favorite Gap Long & Leans - because I am neither long or lean.
I remember these shoes being totally TOTALLY knocked off my Steven Madden and getting so pissed.
Not sure if his had the cute little extra strap that came off the sides, though.
I haven't fallen in love with many Choos lately. I used to love them the most but they've changed their style to be really, I don't know... trendy I guess. They used to be unique and sexy but now I feel blase about most of them.
I am interested in seeing how the H&M pairing turns out. I like a few from the collection but we'll see how they look in person.
On Sunday I went to Target to see if any of the Anna Sui "Gossip Girl" were in stock at my local place. I had looked at everything that was online but the creme lace dress wasn't in stock anymore so I thought I would give it a shot. I had put a bunch of the dresses in my shopping cart but thought it would be best to check them out in person if they wred there.
Well, there were a number of pieces in my local store... not that you would know it. There wasn't much in the way of signage. I flipped through the 3 racks of dresses and shirts and frankly, wasn't all that impressed.
Check it out.
I really don't "get" some of the pieces. And a lot of it seemed very poorly/cheaply made. I know we are at Target here folks, but compared to some of the earlier Go International pieces, the quality is down and the prices are way up.
The feather sequin dress fit really weird. The bottom belled out but was a bit tight up top. The sequins were very uncomfortable and the v-neck was very low cut.
The herringbone dress was okay but a bit stiff and not that flattering to me.
The silk dress was flattering and the pattern and fabric were okay. But I didn't really think it was worth $60 and as it was very lightweight, being silk, I didn't think I would wear it much during the Fall and Winter, which is what I am lookin for.
I did like the houndstooth jacquard dress the best. It's much more purple than it shows in the picture online. It also seems to be the best made. I considered it but at $70, I'm going to wait a while and see if I can get this on sale later. I just didn't want spend the money right now.
Overall the line did not impress me. I didn't like the shirts at all, especially the tulle tied one or the stupid acronym one. WTF was that about?
The most interesting thing are the billboard totes. I think I may end up getting one of these. They're cool and graphic and colorful.
I continue to be disappointed with these collaborations. These are great designers that should really be bringing a unique element and a high quality to a mass merchandiser but in the end they are horrible.
Is it Target doing it or is it the designers dumbing things down so much thinking that the mass retail audience won't appreciate their real work. I don't know. All I do know is that I won't really be buying any.
So a while back I expressed the dream that Mr. McQueen would be a Target collaborator...
and now, it may actually happen!
According to Vogue.com:
Our fashion prayers have been answered: Alexander McQueen has confirmed that he will design a capsule collection for high street retailer Target.
The McQueen collection, a specially-skewed take on his younger diffusion line McQ, will launch a new Target fashion program, Designer Collaborations - a sister project for the smash-hit Go International, which brings young and emerging designers such as Proenza Schouler, Luella Bartley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Rogan and Richard Chai to its rails.
McQueen has taken Leila Moss, the lead singer of Nineties Brit band The Duke Spirit, as his muse for the collection (which is to be known as McQ Alexander McQueen for Target), creating a truly lust-worthy offering of lightweight knits, skinny jeans, bubble dresses, cuffed shorts and denim jackets imbued a rebellious punk edge.
"Designer Collaborations is another way in which Target brings an emporium of designers to our guests. This specific McQ Alexander McQueen for Target collection does have the potential to skew toward a slightly older guest compared to some of our other designer collections," Trisha Adams, senior vice president of Target, tells WWD. "We believe Designer Collaborations will appeal to our fashion-forward guests as well as possibly attract new customers who are fans of Alexander McQueen and McQ."
Prepare to join the fashion scrum in March, when the collection lands in store.
This week has been fill of Middle Ages and Military inspriation.
Yesterday I finally got to wear my Roberto Cavalli velvet and gold tapestry print skirt. I'll probably end up wearing this with a blazer but I paired it with a simple dark green Gap v-neck as I was going for a tonal look overall. For shoe I wore another YOOX purchase - my gold and green velvet Claudio Merazzi heels. Because all of the colors and materials were so unusual, it didn't come off as too matchy-matchy.
It's such a funky skirt. I love the muted gold and dark dark green.
Today I'm a bit brighter!
I was very excited to get new jeans over the weekend. My Gap Long & Leans were looking a bit, how do we say.... craptastic. They were all baggy... and not in a good way. I decided I needed a more straight leg style so while I was returning some shoes to Nine West I popped into Gap and tried on a pair of the Classics. Not only am I loving the darker wash but I was in a smaller size than the Long & Leans.
Go Team Vegetarian!
So, I wanted to wear my jeans and one of my new Lou Lou Loves You bows. I also wanted to wear a heal but something still good for Summer since I know I've got a long winter of jeans and boots and closed toe shoes ahead of me. I ended up pairing my Luella for Target jacket with the bow, one of my new vintage pieces (the necklace was deconstructed to be worn as a pin today), the bow and my 20Ltd. Louboutins.
My bow is ginormous!
Close-up!
I love this combination of blues and orangey-red. I think it works so well together.
If you are considering a bow from Miss Lou Lou, I just want to let you know - you will get lots of comments. The bows are so big and satin-y and luscious, everyone just loves them!
So the rumor mills have been flying but it seems that Thakoon is the next Go International designer parter to do a collection with Target. What is surprising is that this collection is scheduled to run starting in September and none of the image albums are on the Target News site yet.
We'll be going into Fall, so will we see pieces with navy, purple and grey tones and cool graphics?
Some wintery florals and boyfriend cardigans?
Or some kicky tweeds and mini-skirts (which always seem to be a part of the Go collections)?
Plaid and dresses would be fun too, especially with colorful tights.
And the fact that this is to run through the holidays, could we possibly see some slinky dresses?
They don't usually do shoes with the Go collections but wouldn't some graphic strappy sandals like these be cool. Especially in a shiny patent.
Of course, the rumor of McQueen being an upcoming partner would be a dream. Especially if he infused his line with whimsical nods to his couture lines.
Of course, I doubt we'd get this...
But the ombre and the colors and the prints could easily be incorporated into more simple designs and pieces, making them really special.
Besides Galliano, McQueen would be a great collaboration. I wonder if his pairing will actually happen if it would be a decadent Holiday/Winter collection or a detailed Spring?
