Shattered - Kate Spade iPhone Hard Case Sadness

So I'm sad and kind of annoyed.

For ages I wanted this Kate Spade iPhone case - the black with white dots, specifically.

My sweetie got it for me for my birthday and I was very excited.  I loved the colors and the graphic design.  I overlooked that, because it is hard plastic all around, it was a bit slippery and prone to fingerprints.  But there have been two major issues that put me off these hard cases in general and, sadly, the Kate Spade ones in particular.

First - I wanted to be able to change the slick, pretty case out for a more grippy case when I went to a street fair, but once it was snapped together it was impossible to remove.  I tried to pry it apart but nearly damaged it, so I then felt I was trapped and had to live with it.

Not a good thing.  I don't want to break a brand new $40 case.  It could be easy to remove.

The second issue is a HUGE issue - I was able to get it off eventually.  Namely when I dropped my phone.  Not a hard drop and not onto a very hard surface.  The phone was fine but the case shattered into 3 pieces and expelled my phone. No protection there!  Oh yeah, and now I'm out of the case... for good.

This is really bad. I've barely had the phone for a month and it is broken. Bummer.

I did get a second Kate Spade iPhone case, but changed to the silicone case below.  It's easier to grip, easy to remove and hopefully more protective too.

I hate to criticize Kate Spade and the super cute case but this is an expensive item.  And it's designed to protect another expensive item. I'm also not the first to have this problem.  We did a quick search and found loads of similar complaints.

Sure, I love how cute is but not at the expense of breaking my phone.   Sadly, I won't be buying another Kate iPhone hard case again, no matter how temptingly cute they are.

A Tempting Trio - Bergdorfs, Shoes and my iPhone

Not that I need it to be any easier to spend my money on shoes at Bergdorfs (one of my very favorite stores!) but now there is a great, and free, app for the iPhone that allows you to have exclusive access to a featured shoe.

Each day one shoe will be selected which will only be available via the app and in the store. And if you order via the app, you recieve expidited delivery! Whoo hoo!

You can also share the finds with friend and get complimentary returns. And on top of all that, Bergdorfs is currently making a $5 donation for City Harvest for every app downloaded.

So go! Download it now! I have it so I'm all ready for my trip up to NYC. But if you are already there, I've heard rumor that there are hotspots in the store where you can download it asap.

I'm hoping you'll soon see me in the store having tea and browsing for shoes but until I'm there, I'll be having fun online.

The Weight of the World

Sometimes I wonder why I feel like I'm walking on a perpetual slope with a boulder strapped to my back. Maybe it's because of all of the stuff in my purse!

Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit but I really do carry all of this stuff around with me everyday. I was a Girl Scout and I just can't break out of the "Be Prepared" mentality. And I like options, so that makes it worse.

The good thing is that, while there is a lot of stuff, it is very well organized in my bag and I can find everything in a snap! And this purse is great. It isn't a big black hole and the straps are long enough to fit over my shoulder.

On the Flicker page for this image there are roll-overs, but what you see here includes:
  • Dooney & Burke Alto Bag
  • Phone 1 - Blackberry for work
  • 60GB iPod - previous b-day gift
  • Phone 2 - iPhone - last year's b-day gift, in white leather case
  • Kindle - this year's b-day gift
  • Estee Lauder pink heart compact
  • Coach wallet - filled with cards but no cash
  • Owl bag - business cards for work and blog, notebook, hair clip and hair band
  • Moleskine journal - filled coupouns and to dos
  • Flash Drive - what the heck is on that?
  • Dooney Keychain - has house, work and car keys, plus my YMCA tag which I don't even belong to anymore. But it helps me sort my keys.
  • Multiple Lip products - Burt's Bees Lip Balm L'Oreal lipgloss, Chanel lipstick
  • Black bag - "lady" products, Stella travel perfume, Bvlgari White Tea towelettes, nail file, floss, blotting papers, travel flashlight and swiss army knife.
  • Stickers and mini-business cards from MOO.com

The sad thing is that I also carry a laptop bag with my computer and files as well as another shopping bag filled with computer cords, my mouse, my lunch and, of course, my shoes for the day.

I should be a good 3 inches taller! Geez!

Yes, I am a Geek

Yes, I admit it, I am a geek (nerd?). I try not to make it totally obvious but:

1. I like Star Trek: Next Generation
2. I went to the first midnight showings for Star Wars I, II, III
3. Heck, I remember when and where I saw the first Star Wars (IV - to you Lucas-ites) and I have an opinion on Greedo shooting first (not right. Duh!)
4. I've actually been watching the CES recap.
5. On G4
6. I don't play video games... I watch my husband play video games... and comment on what he should be doing.
7. I bought a full price iPhone
8. I beat my geek husband in Star Wars Trivial Pursuit
9. I really like guys who wear glasses

AND....

10. I want a Kindle and am (possibly) willing to spend shoe-money to get it.
