Fall Favorites: Over the Top

Oh yes, there are still MORE Fall Favorites mined from the tons and tons of photos out there. I know where already looking at Spring but Fall is barely here. Of course, half of these might be going on sale soon!

I don't know if I've done a post with out at least one Miu Miu or Prada heel and this is no exception. The next three are all Miu Mius.

I believe these sculpted heels were inspired by shells but they remind me of the armor from the Coppola Dracula movie.

Just me? Okay... moving on...



These have a very 1970's loafer shape with a Wes Wilson style.



Similar shape but the colors and sequins make it seem more Art Deco than funkadelic.



And, of course the iconic Prada shoe for the season with the wings. I love the evolution from the wings in the Miu Miu collection to this year. Has anyone seen these in real life? Just curious.




A veritable bouquet from Roger Vivier... but do these seem more Spring than Fall? But they might lovely with the winter florals and grey tights.



But if we're going over the top then, let's go big. I love the leafy Chloe styles. Love love love them. The booties are available on Net-a-Porter but I haven't seen these. That may be a good thing but they are gorgeous.



Lately I've been wanting more and more feather embellishments and these are just stunning. I just love the creamy buff color. Go Givenchy!



And these Donna Karan's look like a crazy Etsy project... but in a good way. I love the tonal colors, the fluffiness, the raw edges. I would wear these and people would stare thinking I was out of my darn mind. But who cares. I love them.



I have to admit, I haven't seen many of these available. I know the stores and desingers have to play it a bit safer than many of these are, but what do you think? Would you like to see more crazy? A bit riskier? Sick of the safe?

There's No Place Like... Saks

Betsey Johnson is just one of the designers who will be designing a pair of ruby slippers to commemorate the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz next year.

19 designers, including Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Manolo Blahnik and Roger Vivier, will be using Crystallised Swarovski Elements for their shoes - that will be showcased at New York's Saks Fifth Avenue in September.

To raise money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the shoes will do a tour from Saks to the Bryant Park tents at New York Fashion Week before heading to Art Basel Miami Beach.

According to The New York Times, two pairs of each shoe will be produced for auction - while Betsey Johnson's design is rumoured to be a slipper turned into a high heel, Diane von Furstenberg's takes inspiration from her upcoming Wonder Woman collection and the Jimmy Choos are said to be red snakeskin pumps. Either way, we have no doubt they will all raise a lot of money when it comes to auction.

How much do you think I need to save up to get one of those shoes (any one) in the auction. Wait! What if they don't make them in my size???

On Friday I wore a simple grey v-neck that had sparkly threads woven in with my Gap denim pencil skirt.



But, oh, the shoes....



Before I was even strongly "aware" of the Celine brand I somehow found these beauties and had had had to have them.



A gorgeous heel and a very comfortable height. And I love the pink lining.



I think the buckles are a bit Roger Vivier but they are such a great graphic counterpoint to the silver croc pattern.



These also came in black, which I seriously coveted too and had much debate about. In the end, I had to go for the silver croc, of course. Aerosoles ended up doing both a black patent and burgundy patent version - I got both of those too. They are some of my best work heels ever.



I love them so much I try not to wear them all the time so I don't wear them out!

Designer Focus: Roger Vivier

I know Roger Vivier is an iconic designer and has been around for years and years, but most of the time I find his designs almost too simple and classic. I love his iconic buckle shoe,



but I've seen it interpreted so many times (including my Aerosoles in claret and black - not that I new they were channeling Vivier at the time) that they have lost some of their specialness.



The latest line of Vivier shoes, led by Creative Director Bruno Frisoni, are gorgeous. I can totally get behind these feather shoes...



For this latest collection he is focusing on the Fifties and Audrey Hepburn (ala Breakfast at Tiffany's, if you ask me). I'm dying to get my hands on these gorgeous, colorful heels!

If you aren't familiar with Roger Vivier, here's a quick overview:

As Claire Wilcox, curator of the V&A’s current show The Golden Age of Couture, puts it, “Vivier’s shoes are like pieces of jewellery setting off the clothes they are paired with. He was traditional and at the same time incredibly modern.”

Vivier died, aged 90, in 1998. But his spirit lives on in a brand that is now stronger than ever, thanks to creative director Bruno Frisoni. In 2001, Frisoni was asked to inject modernity into the rich heritage of the brand. First came sightings of the Belle Vivier buckle pump in fashion magazines. Then, new stores created a frisson of excitement, in Paris in 2004 and London in 2006.

“Our ambition,” says Frisoni, “was to create a brand, not to set up another shoe shop.”

An art critic recently argued that Vivier shoes are high art, on a par with a Picasso or a Canaletto.

For Frisoni, who cites Cate Blanchett and Isabelle Huppert among his muses, “They are like jewels for the feet. They are a subtle and powerful luxury. Sexy, but never garish. The shoe is an accessory of seduction. Seduction is the watchword of my designs at Roger Vivier. The lady who wears these shoes is alive, she's spontaneous, she is very intelligent but she can laugh at herself too. She's energetic and glamorous all at the same time," smiles Frisoni.
