Days of Intention - Day Three: Tea Party

Scenario:

I have been lover of Afternoon tea for a long time. I love to collect serving pieces and different patterned tea cups and cute mismatched plates. And I especially love having tea parties where I can use all my cute stuff and host a group of friends to come over and meet and chat.

But I rarely have the time, or make the time to do so.

But this year I want that to be different. I'd love to have at least one tea party a season so I can vary the menu and the decor. But the tea party isn't just about using pretty cups and having sandwiches and scones, it's about connecting.

And that's where the challenge lies.

It can be challenging to find the time to get everyone together. It's challenging to make the time to connect. And creating authentic experiences is what I want to do more of. So I'm planning time for tea.

Ideal date:

April 17th

Tea Cups and Tea Parties

On Saturday I went to Target. I know, I know. I should never ever go in there ever again. I needed to get some sunscreen and it was right next door to where I was making a return. What harm would it do to just take a quick spin around the store.

Harmless, right???

Wrong. Gah! There were all things I needed there. And I put half of what I had picked up back on the rack. So that's like saving money, right? Okay, let's just go with that rationalization, shall we?

I got a nice little black rayon dress which will be great for traveling to New York. I also got these cropped jeans in a dark indigo wash. They fit awesome and were only $17. They have some stretch to them too. I was pleased with them. I also got three cropped carigans to wear with some of my dresses. Since it's so hot out but the AC is always on, these should come in handy. They look short-sleeved on the model but they hit me as 3/4 sleeves. And the grey one was on sale for $10!

I liked the dress and grey cardigan so much I decided to wear it to a Ladies Tea tea party the next day. I, of course, had to pair it with my Miu Miu tea cup heels. I mean, come on! What else could I wear???

You don't need to do much to play up these shoes. I opted to wear my vintage gold heart locket and my watch. Both help play up the gold accents in the heels.

To all the lovely ladies from all over the world, it was a pleasure to meet you!

They're Here! They're Here!

Today's a very special outfit because...

They're here! At long last I have the tea cup heels in my possession!

The Outfit
Thank you to everyone to gave their thoughts on how to pair up the shoes with my outfit options. In the end I went with all grey so the red would really stand out. But don't worry, I'll be wearing these often so I'm sure to hit the other selections as well.

The top is a v-neck grey cashmere sweater and a grey a-line skirt. A simple and clean backdrop.

I did struggle with the jewelry. I wanted to add in some gold but not be too theme-y or try to compete with the shoes. After pulling out about 15 options, I ended up wearing this vintage owl pin. The gold is very shiny as are the eyes. What I like is that the shine goes with the patent leather but isn't the same color.

Okay, who really cares about all that other stuff. Let's get to the shoes...

The Focal Point
Let's guess, shall we???

Here they are! Oh. My. Gawd! If you want the full effect, click on the images for huge versions.

They have a bit of the naughty about them, don't they. I'm so happy I got red.

I love the angle from the back of the shoes. So cute! They look good with the grey too.

These are not for the faint of heart. You can not escape notice in these.

The Miu Miu store called me yesterday too. They are also getting these in pink and white, but with tie over the vamp, which Saks did not have. They are quite tempting too. But to get another pair would be seriously going over into excess, right? But pink!
Must. Hold. Out.

If you're going to turn some heads, why not break some necks*

So my Miu Miu tea cup heels are winging their way to me right now! I am so frickin' excited!

Now the only question is what I am going to wear with them since I will want to wear them the very second I get them. I'll probably change my mind fifteen times but I was playing around with some options on Polyvore.

I could go with all black in a mini-skirt which might be a bit sex-ay for work. Or a more subtle black pencil skirt with a jeweled tone top. Another option is a black v-neck sweater and cropped black pants to really draw your eye down to the shoes. A different tack would be to wear an all grey outfit. It would be a strong contrast and bit odd possibly with the gold trim but it could be genius.

Any suggestions?

*Thanks Luxist... great quote.

A Mad Tea Party

Were you all as enchanted by the Miu Miu S/S 2008 RTW show, especially (mostly?) by the shoes and accessories.

Well, the time is finally here.

The first tea cup shoes are now available on pre-order at Saks!

They just have the red and black mary janes so far. None of the tie-fronts or other colors have come in. And, according to NY, the actual Miu Miu stores have not received their pieces yet either. They don't even know what colors they are getting.

So, if you want feet ready for a tea party, the time to order is NOW!
