Glass Slippers and Magic

It's been since March/April but the magic has finally arrived on my doorstep...

The Jimmy Choo Cinderella heels have arrived from their fairy tale realm. 

And they are more than stunning in real life. Actually heavy from all of the crystals and amazing on. People from all over my office were stopping by to look at them and take pictures.

Totally ballgown worthy.

I've never been a huge fan of Cinderella, at least the not version that made it to the movies.

I much preferred the 1970s Big Golden Book version... so much so that I have a framed gilded print of the book cover art.

I always thought the art in this book far surpassed the look of the movie.

Possibly only slightly better than the confections that are the Mary Blair concepts images.

But even though I'm not a huge fan of the Disney-fied story (I like the one of the older Grimm versions with the 3 dresses gifted from a magical tree), I can get behind the fancy footwear!

One of my favorite ads we did when I worked at Walt Disney World Marketing showcased the magic and transformation of the right footwear.

So how could I not be entranced by the gorgeous shoes created for the new Cinderella movie.  They're all beautiful and unique.

But the Jimmy Choo sketch really is the magical shoe brought perfectly to life.

I am entranced to say the least. They're utterly gorgeous, nearly unattainable and I'm going to find a way to make them mine sooner or later.

Project Time: Grosgrain and Chain Necklace

In the spirit of P.S. I Made This, I saw this cute little neckace from Ann Taylor and thought it would be fun to make my own version.  I don't do a lot of jewelry making but I loved the pink ribbon combined with the gold and the crystal drops.

So off I went to Michaels for supplies.  I decided to do two versions, one in silver and one in a gold.  I would say I felt a bit limited in terms of chain and crystal options, not having exactly what I hoped for, but I found some pretty good options.   I didn't take a lot of supplies - 1 package of chain each, the crystals, 1 spool of pink grosgrain ribbon and jump rings and clasps (enough for more projects too)

I ended up using 24 inches of chain each because they get compressed when you thread through the ribbon, losing about 4 - 6 inches.  I wanted the crystals to hang down so this length worked out perfectly.

I used little briolets for the gold version.  I may go back to get more so I can continue them up, more like the inspiraiton piece.

For the silver, there were two sizes of the crystals in the packet so I took advantage of that to creat a more dangly piece.

All in all I spent about $50, including for the clippers, to make two necklaces with material to spare.  As P.S. I Made This says - I saw it, I liked it, I made it!

I am so ready for Fall. It's my favorite time of year. I can't wait for tights and tweed and blazers. This year I'm influenced by dark woods and moody fairy tales. My colors will be charcoal, navy, black, creme, olive, white, and dark brown with bursts of red, bronze and burgundy.

These Pedro Garcia "Emelyn" pumps would be perfect. I love the dark colors and the black bows.

I love the raw edges but I really want to know how well these Swarovski crystals glitter under the netting. A muted glitter perfect for the dusky light of Fall.

I am really ready for Summer to be over.

Leave me some Louise

I know the Louise Goldin for TopShop heels are not new news, but I've refrained from talking about them for fear of generating even more excitement and anticipation for when they come out in real life. But I'm trying to overcome my naturally selfish opportunities to talk about them.

And to have an excuse to look at the runway shots again...

Images of the "real" product have come out and while they don't look to be bristling with spikes as much as the runway pieces (sadly), they still look pretty awesome.

Frankly, I'd like them so crammed with spikes that I risk serious blood-loss wearing them but that's just me (Or is it? To be addressed later...).

But why talk about them now? Well, they come out soon soon soon, and I must have them. Yes, all of them. So if you see them in a 35, 35.5 or even a 36 (I'll stuff the toes), tell me! I've been looking at the site everyday for months.

Minor Modifications

Since it's been a while since I posted one and the some of my favorite ladies on Twitter were talking about embellishing their sneaks, I thought I would share an old shoe customization project with you.


This was a pretty small and fast one so I didn't take step-by-step pictures but I can describe it pretty easily. Basically I just added some sparkle to my step.

I found some sneakers that I liked that would lend themselves easily to a crystal pattern. The Converse-y ones actually came from the Target kids section a year or two ago. Their canvas so good for gluing on and had a stitched wave element on the sides.



All I needed to do was to get flat backed Swarovski crystals from Michael's (arts & crafts supply store), fabric glue and tweezers. I got a few colors of pink and clear in regular and a tiny size. I also bought some cute oversize laces in white with pink polka-dots.

Then I just glued the crystals on. This whole project took almost no time at all.




On the back tab I did a pattern with clear crystals and some randomly placed pink ones.

Here's where the small crystals came into play... Yes, I actually did put my name on them in tiny crystals. Yes, I am ridiculous.

So there you go. A pretty simple project. One thing to note. I should try other glues because every once in a while a crystal will fall off. I just end up gluing on a replacement.

I wear these to work and to walk around. They're a lot of fun, extremely sparkly in person and, I have to admit, little girls adore them.

The Outfit

So I did the big Seasonal Swap over the weekend coupled with a huge purge. I now have a giant pile of stuff that I am itching to get out of the house asap! It also let me bring out my favorite jackets which I wait all year to wear.

Today I'm wearing a grey wool jacket from Target with a grey beaded JCrew tee. I'm also wearing my favorite Gap Classic jeans (I went in there to get the same pair in the Ankle length and they were out! This is the Gap... shouldn't they have every size all the time???).

The Focal Point

Well, even though they're hard to see because my jeans are so long... it's all about the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi, a.k.a. Something Blue, heels. I wanted to have the shiny blue peek out while the grey crystals echo the grey jacket and tee.
