Self-Discovery and Six Words

Self-Discovery by aprilmes

I feel like 2008 is going to be a good year for learning more about what I want to do and who I want to be. It seems like there are a lot of insightful quotes out there, writers (online and off) who are really making me think and resources that help push my perceptions.

One resource I'm going to take advantage of next week is to meet with Danielle of Carrie & Danielle. She is going to do a Style Statement session with me. I'm really looking forward to it and will take you all through the entire process after our session next week.

Today I heard about a new initiative that has got me thinking. Smith Magazine has just put out a book which is a compilation of six word memoirs. What I love is how insightful and encompassing these few words can be.

Some for me that come to my mind are:

Hello, Silence, my old friend.

Self-exile melted with cold noses

What would your words be?

Thank you Very Short List - another great find!

Oh, I'm so excited about your Style Statement meeting!!! I read about it in Domino a while back (I think it was Domino, actually) and have put it on my list of things to do. I'm really solid in what I like and what I don't like, and I live very purposely with that focus anyway. But, I want my two words. I already have the book listed as a must-have, and I'll get it the second it comes out.

I can't wait to hear about your experience!

In other news, what do you do about shoes that are too tight? I picked up some shoe stretching liquid that smells much like nail polish remover to gently stretch my Gucci flats. It is starting to work very slowly, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions.

Daniela,

That is where I read about it too. If you want to do it with them, I would book it before April 1st. When their book comes out the price for a session is going up to $2000. Yikes!

As for the shoe stretching. I'm sort of paranoid about my shoes. I would ask a professional shoe repair place (the older gentlemen who've done it forever are the best). I'm not sure about off the shelf options. I'm too scared to try!

I actually bought the stuff online from a shoe seller.

We don't have a cobbler for about 100 miles. I wish though.

Ugh, the session price is quadrupling! That's like.. 4 pairs of shoes! I'll read the book and glean my own two words. I do want the recap about your session though!
